Fly Veils & Fly Bonnets – Small Protection, Huge Impact
Who hasn't experienced it: the horse shakes its head every minute, flaps its ears, becomes restless while riding, and can't find peace in the pasture. This is usually due to flies and mosquitoes targeting the ears and forehead – two of the most sensitive areas on a horse's head. A well-fitting fly veil solves this problem simply, effectively, and without chemicals. At IQ Horse, you'll find a carefully selected range of fly veils and fly bonnets for every need and head shape.
Why protecting the ears and forehead is so important
Flies entering the ears are particularly distressing for horses. They not only cause itching and stress but, with persistent infestation, can also trigger inflammation and irritation of the delicate ear mucous membranes. Some horses develop genuine defensive reflexes – uncontrolled shaking, shy behavior, or sensitivity when being bridled. A fly veil with ear protection breaks this cycle and restores the horse's calm, which it needs for focused work and restful standing.
Fly veils for riding – inconspicuous, functional, combinable
Many riders underestimate how much more relaxed a horse works when it's not constantly bothered by insects on its head. Fly veils for use under the bridle are specially cut to be easily combined with a bridle or halter – without slipping or pinching. The result: a calmer, more focused horse's head and significantly more pleasant training sessions, especially during the summer months.
Fly bonnets for stable & pasture – all-day protection without effort
For continuous use in the pasture or stable, fly bonnets are the most practical solution. They fit securely, don't slip, and provide reliable protection for many hours. Models with additional nose protection offer even more comprehensive all-round protection for the entire head area. Whether plain or patterned, with or without ear coverage – the variety in our range leaves nothing to be desired.
The right fit is key
A fly veil that slips or pinches is not a solution – it's a new problem. Therefore, when purchasing, you should pay attention to the correct size and an adjustable fit. Good models can be individually adjusted at the throatlatch and noseband so that they sit securely without constricting. Lightweight, breathable materials ensure that the horse is not unnecessarily burdened, even in hot weather.
